girl, she/her, 32mara (short for maria) is my pressure oc, being one of the experiments. anyways full mara lore drop:
mara had life going nicely up until she was 14, her dad was already a crazed alchoholic but around some tuesday her mom is trying to set up a councellor for her dad and tells him his addiction is setting a bad example of which that resulted in a fight and mara's mom was killed and hidden. school ends and mara phones her dad asking where mom is to pick her up and he bullshits her with "she left". mara enters her emo phase form there. so like 8 years later she's 22 now and graduated and living with just her dad, which has been awful. so she's jobsearching and her dad (tripping on mystery powder) shouts from across the house to wash the dishes, get him a beer, idk i forgot but its bad, she says no but he storms into her room with a bat, swings it and hits her right in the face, yelling at her how she's useless, weak and a failiure. mara is far beyond sick of this and decides that it ends now so she takes her pocket blade and slashes his leg leaving him kneeling, runs to the kitchen and takes a butcher knife and gets him gone for good. she then starts packing clothes, essentials, food, drinks, etc and starts driving. couple hours on the road she starts feeling misreable about everything and that her dad was probably right all this time, she stops at a bar, chats with a friend and orders a few too many drinks. feeling better now she hits the road again, still drunk, driving down town. before anything clicks in her head she finds herself outside her destroyed car on the sidewalk, blood in a gigantic puddle coming from the front of her car and a person crushed into the wall of a building. police sirens everywhere and mara's in cuffs. she then goes to court to get charged guilty of 2 and 3rd degree murder, dui and speeding. mara then gets sentenced to death row, before her execution day (im gonna assume the death penalty time wait isnt broken in the pressure universe, so she's 23 now) she gets picked up by urbanshade with a fake execution report being published. so mara is now a prisoner at urbanshade, now with the lr-p rank, mara was originally in with the "march" lr-p's, tasked with maintaing and caring for a small farm donw in the blacksite. mara had this role for 7 years but then was switched to the "test subject" lr-p's due to the abundance in the march lr-ps due to the mortality rate (mara's now 30), "test subject" lr-p's are lr-p's that were selected for human testing and experimentation. almost 2 months after getting moved to this position mara was selected for an experiment to make you skin glow, reasoning for this was a joke among personel due to a recent blackout that "would be nice if i could glow myself so i dont have to go all the way back to get a lantern". so using dna from a firefly squid, sea salp, and crystal jellyfish, mara was put under several tests that eventually put her in a short coma for a month 1/4. mara wakes up and finds black long tentacles where her legs should be, claws on her fingers, her inner cheek swole from accidentaly biting it from the sharp teeth, her vision in gereral just x1000 times more clear, not that she needed glasses before, any skin that isnt black is now a light-dead blue, and just the world around her looking a little smaller than it used to. she's given the day to rest but next day she's asked to "do the glowy thing", mara has no idea what this personel is talking about. they leave and mara starts practicing doing it, with absolutely no results, spending the rest of the day now working in the oxygen gardens as she's been ranked to mr-p, while on the odd occasion being on fashionista duty. it takes roughly a year of mara being asked everyday to "do the glowy thing" and trying then failing, but halfway through that year of time mara starts finding and learning the right senses to glow, so halfway through that year theres actual results but very very dim. so it's december 2024 now, mara can glow brightly, the initial experiment had been ironed out among other subjects to rid all the undesirable side effects so that its just the ability to make your skin glow. it's also been taken into note that actually learning to glow may vary among people as some have learnt to do it a lot quicker than mara. nothing really important happens in the story right now other than christmas and mara's christmas gift being her execution date reveal, december 29th 2025, and a plastic red flower hairclip from a Z-432-1 instance she summoned. so yeah mara's just waiting out her death now, still doing oxygen-garden buisness. but october happens aka blacksite lockdown and mara's like "shit, freedom??" and from there on is just mara trying to escape by either breaking a window and swimming away with 2 pockets full of revive tokens or using sebastians leverage strategy, havent decided yet which way she does yet.
